Never forgetting the local musicians and the role they played in spreading this music genre, this year's festival will honor the musician Madeira JOHN SOUSA.
On the first day, Funchal Jazz invites two great names in international jazz: KENNY BARRON, accompanied by special guest David Sanchez.
With his creative style, articulate and distinct, Kenny Barron is one of the leading exponents of contemporary jazz. While doing his apprenticeship alongside musicians like Stan Getz and Miles Davis, Kenny Barron has been building a unique style that made him one of the masters of modern maisnstream. Today, besides being a respected teacher, continues to create music of exceptional quality and dazzle audiences all over the world with his unusual talent as a pianist.
David Sanchez is one of the most accomplished saxophonists of the contemporary scene, which won the Latin Grammy for best instrumental album of 2005, continues to amaze with an extraordinary virtuosity and creativity. Their music heavily inspired by Miles Davis and John Coltrane, interweaves different rhythms and sounds with originality and daring.
Funchal Jazz 8, 9 & 10th July
The 11th edition of the Funchal Jazz is coming, and keeping those who have been targets ever want, once again, make a difference and pursue the goal of achieving in Funchal an event that is distinguished by the quality and uniqueness, in the national festivals of Jazz.
Gathering around the population of this initiative and cultural institutions, always trying to captivate the public, increasingly demanding, the festival has been gaining, particularly among younger, Funchal Jazz returns to convene excellent performers to fill the three Nights Festival.
Preceding the performance of the KENNY BARRON TRIO, accompanied by DAVID SANCHEZ, there will be an opportunity to listen to a project that has been giving that talk at the national jazz scene: 3 VOICES, an ensemble composed of three major national jazz talent: MARIA JOHN, MARIA MARIA VIANA and ANADON three distinct voices and spare presentations, are on stage, joined by a passion to create music freely and constantly celebrating jazz and voice, playing original songs and classic jazz and American songbook.
Alongside the concerts that take place on the main stage, framed by lush gardens of the Parque de Santa Catarina, there will be room for traditional Record Fair Jazz & Blues.
Funchal Jazz Festival continues to be an event not to be missed for all lovers of music and no shortage of reasons to attend the 2010 edition of this event. We therefore hope that, as usual, the Madeira respond to the invitation and join the grand celebration of Jazz in the coming days 8, 9 and July 10 will return to the pleasant grounds of the Parque de Santa Catarina.
